Ive written about the usefulness of Vitamin D in the past; not only is it likely to be useful in MS, but also seems, according to this<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2020.06.21.162396v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> search through the medical databases<\/a>, it has anti-viral activity and is likely to be useful against Sars-Cov2-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">The paper, published in June is titled:<\/span><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; border: 0px; color: #131313; font-size: 1.33rem; font-stretch: normal; letter-spacing: -0.03em; line-height: 1.9rem; margin: 0px 0px 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 16px 0px 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">Calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, is a promising candidate for COVID-19 prophylaxis<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(25, 25, 25); color: #191919; font-size: 14.699999809265137px;\">This is its abstract, or summary:<i>&nbsp;<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(25, 25, 25); color: #191919; font-size: 14.699999809265137px;\"><i>&#8220;COVID-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2<\/i><\/span><span style=\"background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(25, 25, 25); color: #191919; font-size: 14.699999809265137px; font-style: italic;\">, was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(25, 25, 25); color: #191919; font-size: 14.699999809265137px; font-style: italic;\">. While awaiting a vaccine, several antivirals are being used to manage the disease with limited success <\/span><span style=\"background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(25, 25, 25); color: #191919; font-size: 14.699999809265137px; font-style: italic;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(25, 25, 25); color: #191919; font-size: 14.699999809265137px;\"><i><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">To expand this arsenal, we screened 4 compound libraries: a United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug library, an angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) targeted compound library, a flavonoid compound library as well as a natural product library.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(25, 25, 25); color: #191919; font-size: 14.699999809265137px;\"><i><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">Of the 121 compounds identified with activity against SARS-CoV-2, 7 were shortlisted for validation. We show for the first time that the active form of Vitamin D, calcitriol, exhibits significant potent activity against SARS-CoV-2. This finding paves the way for consideration of host-directed therapies for ring prophylaxis of contacts of SARS-CoV-2 patients.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #191919; font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\">Since its publication in June we have further direct evidence from Spain of how treatment with the fast acting form of&nbsp;Vitamin&nbsp;D reduces the risk of being admitted from general wards to ICU by 70%.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #191919; font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #191919; font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\">With the news understandably focusing on vaccines and further restrictions, its important not to forget the potential of&nbsp;Vitamin&nbsp;D to keep you healthy. &nbsp;Keeping&nbsp;your vitamin D levels at their normal levels in this day and age needs supplements for the vast majority of us.
